Origins

There's a name for this

Our methodology, North Star Momentum, sits in the lineage of category design popularized by the book Play Bigger — the practice of naming and owning a market category instead of competing inside someone else's. We didn't invent the idea. We've just applied it often enough to know where it breaks. Read the full explanation

The North Star

Nobody tells you how to get one

Ask McKinsey, BCG, Bain or Accenture how a transformation begins and the answer is a North Star. For them it's an input, the thing you're expected to walk in already holding, so they can scope a few years of implementation. But getting there is the actual work: hearing what people mean in the half-sentences they don't finish, and shaping agreement in a room that doesn't have any yet. We do that part, and hand you the document at the end of it. We also stay long enough to help your team put it into practice, or to brief one of the big consulting firms if that's where you go next.
